Sam's Tiara

$1,100.00

16”x20” oil on canvas

Created at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, in an almost collaborative way. I was lamenting about wanting to paint the dried hydrangeas around the campus, and one day walked into the lunch room to find a few had been found and left for me! Later, a fellow resident Sam told me he was creating a Tiara, and of course I had to see it which led to painting it - which led to this painting. I like the way that these objects create the figure of a bust, which would usually be reserved for important figures. Here, this bust is created by community thus equating the idea of community with as much importance as a figurehead or leader.
